  1. How big is a muskrat? I think I may have seen one at my local nature park, but I didn’t know what it was at the time. It looked something like this creature, but it was not very big.

    • Hi Emilia and thanks for the visit. I don’t recall your location, but I’d guess that you saw a muskrat. They’re our most common furbearer and thrive in many wetland habitats – marshes, swamps, streams, lake shores, etc. Cattails are an important habitat component. They’re much smaller than a beaver and have a slender, rat-like tail; visualize the dimensions of a vehicle license plate.
