After days of freezing rain and occasional snow, the expectations of a “normal” April day – wildlife, flowers, singing songbirds – were absent. This macro of a Balsam Fir twig captured the moment.

Hi, one could almost imagine this to be the ever-elusive mythical ice caterpillar. Maybe from Narnia 🙂
Perfect!
🙂
Comments like this are why I blog! My day is now complete.
Love the pic Nick; looks like an emerging primal lugworm. Hope that the icy weather clears, spring deserves a chance to push through.
I don’t know of primal lugworms, but my imagination is running with the thought. Thanks!
I can even see an eye!
Looks to me like winter is pretty reluctant to let go where you are. We could travel a few miles, or couple of thousand feet in altitude to find some of that, but naaah…. we’ll just wait for things to thaw a bit. Visions of digging out of slushy, dirt roads simply don’t beckon me! 😀
But then I don’t get great catches like the one you posted. Oh well! 😉
Marvelous shot! But don’t tell winter about it, so that it won’t repeat itself next year.
